When General Engineers Ltd. was founded in 1950, it was one of the first international companies to establish a presence in Israel. GE is made up of four businesses: GE Healthcare, GE Industrial, GE Infrastructure and NBC Universal.
Highlights
· 1970-NBC Universal, a GE subsidiary, opened its Tel Aviv office and is today one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production and marketing of entertainment, news and information to a global audience.
· 1984-Israel Defense Forces (IDF) bought GE engines for its 75 f-16 air force fighters.
· 1993-GE supplies Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) with three industrial gas turbines at a cost of $4 million, to be installed at the Atarot industrial zone north of Jerusalem and in Eilat.
· 1998-GE opened its Tel Aviv office and made its initial investment in the Giza Fund.
· 1998-1999-GE was named the number one trading partner to the Industrial Cooperation Authority (ICA), totaling over $250 million of domestic procurement in 1999 alone.
· 2002-GE Medical Systems, Elgems, GE Ultrasound, and GEMS Israel Ltd. merged into one company, GE Healthcare Israel Ltd.
· GE Healthcare Israel brought to market the world’s first miniaturized, portable cardiac ultrasound system.
· GE Healthcare Israel brought to market the first combined nuclear and CT imaging scanner using single photon emission computed tomography SPECT/CT imaging.
· GE Healthcare Israel developed a new generation CT reconstruction engine, which has revolutionized workflow design with increased speed, image quality, and workflow flexibility.
· 2006-Israel began manufacturing and shipping GE Healthcare’s Genie Acquisition, the operating interface used in their Nuclear Medicine (NM) scanner systems.
· 2007-The LightSpeed VCT system developed by GE Healthcare, delivers a comprehensive view of the heart and coronary arteries with sub-millimeter resolution acquiring only 5 beats of the heart.
· GE Healthcare Systems in Israel provides creative and innovative product solutions through Global Centers of Excellence in three important businesses: Functional Imaging (including Nuclear Imaging and Positron Emission Topography-PET), Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
· GE Healthcare Israel employs over 350 people.
Investments and Returns
· 1997-GE established a 50/50 nuclear imaging partnership with Elscint, acquiring Elscint the following year.
· 1998-GE Medical Systems acquired Diasonics Ltd., Elbit’s diagnostic ultrasound business.
· 2008-GE acquires Versamed Medical Corporation for $40 million.
