GIVEN IMAGING
Converging Medical and Military Know-How to Develop Life-changing Breakthroughs

"Given Imaging is proud of its role as a leader in developing innovative products for GI diagnostics." Homi Shamir, CEO, Given Imaging

Given Imaging Ltd. was established in 1998 in Yoqneam, Israel, when a former missile engineer combined his knowledge with that of a medical doctor, in order to create a revolutionary diagnostic tool. That tool, the PillCam, is the first ingestible non-invasive disposable camera the size of a capsule that diagnosis gastrointestinal track diseases.  2008 An addition to the Given Imaging portfolio, the Bravo pH Monitoring System, is a gold standard method for pH monitoring of gastric reflux.  Bravo is the only wireless (catheter-free) ambulatory pH test to help clinicians manage gastro esophageal reflux disease.

Highlights

  • In 2001, only three years after its founding, Given Imaging made worldwide  headlines when it introduced this revolutionary FDA approved PillCam Capsule Endoscopy to the world. The PillCam replaces painful and invasive endoscopy and enterscopy diagnostic procedures through the simple yet innovative technique of swallowing a capsule capable of transmitting fifty thousand real-time images to a receiver belt worn by the patient and which can then be reviewed by a physician.
  • The PillCam helps diagnose Crohn's Disease, celiac disease, malabsorption disorders and benign and malignant tumors of the small intestine. It can also detect vascular disorders, medication-related small bowel injuries, and a range of pediatric small bowel disorders often remaining undiagnosed using other procedures.
  • 2003: The PillCam was approved for use in pediatric patients
  • 2004-PillCam ESO which provides a patient-friendly alternative to esophageal endoscopy and the associated sedation and discomfort was approved.
  • 2006-The PillCam COLON video capsule for visualization of the colon was cleared for marketing in the European Union, and multi-center clinical trials are underway in Europe and the U.S.
  • 2007-Given Imaging Ltd. received approval from the European Commission of the Sixth EU Framework Program of Research and Technological Development to help develop patient-friendly, highly sensitive early cancer detection technology as part of the NEMO project.
  • Currently, the PillCam is marketed in over 60 countries, including the US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, China, South Korea and Latin America and has been adopted by major health insurers.
  • 2008-Veteran's Administration National Acquisition Center granted Given Imaging a new 5-year Federal Supply Schedule (FSS) contract with revenue anticipated at $7.5 million for the contract period.
  • A 2008 portfolio addition, the Bravo pH Monitoring System, is a gold standard method for pH monitoring of gastric reflux.  Bravo is the only wireless (catheter-free) ambulatory pH test to help clinicians manage gastro esophageal reflux disease.
  • In April, 2010, Given Imaging acquired privately-held Sierra Scientific Instruments, the world leader in high-resolution manometry products and acid reflux monitoring solutions, including pH and impedance monitoring.

  • The Wall Street Journal awarded Given Imaging the 2004 Technology Innovation award for the PillCam video capsule. The company received first place in the medical category and the silver medal overall.
