Given Imaging Ltd. was established in 1998 in Yoqneam, Israel , when a former missile engineer combined his knowledge with that of a medical doctor, in order to create a revolutionary diagnostic tool, the PillCam - the first ingestible non-invasive disposable camera the size of a capsule that diagnosis gastrointestinal track diseases.

·         In 2001, only 3 years after its foundation, Given Imaging made worldwide  headlines when it introduced  this revolutionary FDA approved PillCam™ Capsule Endoscopy. to the world..

·         The PillCam™ replaces painful and invasive endoscopy and enterscopy   diagnostic procedures through the simple, yet innovative technique of swallowing a capsule capable of transmitting fifty thousand real-time images to a receiver belt worn by the patient and which can then be reviewed by a physician.

·         The PillCam™ helps diagnose Crohn's Disease, Celiac disease, malabsorption disorders and benign and malignant tumors of the small intestine. It can also detect vascular disorders, medication-related small bowel injuries, and a range of pediatric small bowel disorders often undiagnosed using other  procedures. .

·         2003: The PillCam™ was approved for use in pediatric patients..

·         2004-PillCam ESO which provides a patient-friendly alternative to esophageal endoscopy and the associated sedation and discomfort was approved.

·         2006-The PillCam COLON video capsule for visualization of the colon was cleared for marketing in the European Union, and multi-center clinical trials are underway in Europe and the U.S..

·         2007-Given Imaging Ltd. received approval from the European Commission of the Sixth EU Framework Program of Research and Technological Development to help develop patient-friendly, highly sensitive early cancer detection technology as part of the NEMO project.

·         Currently, the PillCam™ is marketed in over 60 countries, including U.S.A., Australia, New Zealand, Canada, China, South Korea and Latin America and has been adopted by major health insurers..

·         2008-Veteran's Administration National Acquisition Center granted the Given Imaging a new 5-year Federal Supply Schedule (FSS) contract with revenue anticipated at $7.5 million for the contract period.

 

Awards

  • The Wall Street Journal awarded Given Imaging the 2004 Technology Innovation award for the PillCam™ video capsule. The company received First Place in the medical category and the Silver Medal overall. The judges stated that they were “especially impressed by PillCam’s ™ potential impact on users’ quality of life.”
  • 2007-Given Imaging Selected as 2007 World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer.

  • Given Imaging was first listed on the NASDAQ in 2001, raising $60 million at $12 per share. After only 2 quarters, Given Imaging had net sales of $4.73 million.
  • Net sales for the 2007 have was $112.8 million, up from $95 million in 2006.
